OPEN HOUSE

In a San Juan Islands home conceived by architect Geoff Prentiss, designer Mike Powers chose a Circa Lighting sconce and an RH chandelier to illuminate the entryway, painted in Benjamin Moore’s inky Ebony King. Builder Rick Dalgarno’s company fabricated the door, which incorporates a vintage wood panel and a handle from Rocky Mountain Hardware. The hanging kilim is from One Kings Lane. (Tour the home)

OLD SCHOOL

An antique door salvaged from the wife’s family home opens to a mechanical room; nearby, an old sugar sack hangs framed on the wall. The cut-limestone flooring from A.J. Brauer Stone echoes the exterior paving and the site’s natural limestone. (Tour the home)

SNEAK PEEK

The clever design of the gate enables either homeowner–he’s 6’4″, she’s 5’7″–to catch a glimpse of who has come calling. The courtyard reuses pavers from the original house as a transition space between public and private areas. The steel gate was built by Allenback Engineering. (Tour the home)

MAKE AN ENTRANCE

A hand-forged steel door fabricated by Metalworks leads to the entry marked by a heart-and-key insignia designed by the wife and fabricated in tile mosaic by Venetian Tile & Stone Gallery.
