WELL-LIT
An elegant entry foyer greets guests with a neutral palette, giant slabs of creamy stone flooring, horizontal wood paneling and a graceful staircase with a custom-designed X-shaped baluster inset, a nod to the initial of the wife’s maiden name. HIGH GLASS
Referencing the lanterns outdoors, a grand hand-forged iron chandelier by Gregorius Pineo presides over the kitchen, where Belgian Bluestone reappears, topping the counters. Tucked in a niche in the maple butcher-block island are orange woven baskets from Pottery Barn. The Hickory chairs are covered in Holly Hunt leather. (Tour the home)
GOING UP
An elegantly curved staircase and hand-stenciled oak floors create a grand sense of arrival in the foyer; covering the stairs is a wool-sisal rug with leather binding. An antique lantern hangs above an antique center table, while draperies feature a plaid by Jim Thompson Fabrics. (Tour the home)
FIRESIDE CHATS
On the rear slope, landscape architect Erik Katzmaier brought in olive trees that, like the house, give a feeling of the French countryside. He then developed a flat area between the house and the slope as a space for entertaining, complemented by Santa Maria stone paving and an outdoor fireplace, along with citrus trees and a low-maintenance herb garden. ORANGE YOU GLAD
The dining room’s wallpaper, Pagoda by Katie Ridder, started the house’s color scheme. Watts repainted the owners’ chairs in a coordinating shade and had them recovered with black leather from John Brooks, Inc. The light fixture is by The Urban Electric Co. (Tour the home)
GILDED CAGE
In the kitchen, barstools from RH rest under a countertop featuring Calacatta Gold marble from International Granite & Marble, which also appears on the backsplash. The designer used a palette of light neutrals punctuated with textures and pattern to play up the home’s sense of openness. “It was critical that we didn’t hinder that feeling with dark furnishings and fabrics,” explains Meg Joannides, who designed the living and dining rooms–on either side of the foyer–to “coexist harmoniously.” (Tour the home)
