Rising from a desolate, rocky landscape in Joshua Tree, California, is a three-bedroom house made of shipping containers. Designed by architect James Whitaker for a client in the film industry, the residence sits on a 90-acre mountainside plot of land where stormwater created a gully. The shipping containers are oriented to maximize views and provide privacy, where needed, and solar panels on the roof of the garage power the building. This futuristic, space-age home sparks our search for edgy pieces fit for desert life.
