Meet The Maker

Sean Hunter, Midtown Artisans

Midtown Artisans operates under the credo, “Making things that last.” From the time the Tucson venture was founded by Andy Littleton, lead craftsman Sean Hunter has created tables, benches, sinks and stools to furnish private and retail spaces.

“Every project is a new challenge,” says Hunter. “There’s never a dull moment. The opportunity to design and fabricate custom furniture that hundreds, maybe even thousands, of people will interact with on a given day is very gratifying. I’m pretty sentimental, so Presta, which was my first major commercial opportunity to design and build a space from a blank slate, is still my favorite project to date.”

Mesa, the team’s small retail space at the Mercado San Agustin Annex just west of downtown Tucson, carries a selection of small home goods made with the same quality of materials and craftsmanship. Cutting boards, prickly hex tile and concrete cacti share the space with one-off furniture pieces. On the horizon is a new furniture line in development and expansion of their market goods.

“Our goal is to provide a wider range of quality home goods with the option of supplementing in custom work,” says Hunter.

Look for the work of Sean and Midtown Artisans at Cultivate Tucson, a biannual pop-up market showcasing the best of local makers. “It’s a great community event here in Tucson hosted by amazing people,” says Littleton.
