Asian Art Museum, Seattle

The Asian Art Museum, recently added to the National Register of Historic Places, will undergo a major transformation and expansion this fall, fusing the historic and the innovative into a singular structure.

The project promises more galleries and events plus greater access to the naturescape of Volunteer Park, itself a historic relic since 1976. The original Art Deco façade from 1933 will be preserved while the interiors will receive structural improvements including a new light-filled glass lobby where the park, the architecture and the extensive Asian art collection will be showcased together.

LMN Architects, known for its historic restorations, is leading the project alongside landscape architect Walker Macy. The building will reopen in 2019.
