Three of the most anticipated condominiums in the city beckon with architecture and interiors that speak to the senses.
THE XI

In West Chelsea, architect Bjarke Ingels’ The XI is creating a buzz.
The east tower’s residences, due by early 2019, will feature custom interiors by Parisian design team Gilles & Boissier, featuring Italian-made Molteni kitchen cabinetry and bathroom flooring of Arabescato Vagli marble.
“What we really want is to create a sensory experience,” says designer Dorothee Boissier. Meanwhile, Gabellini Sheppard Associates is designing the interiors of the west tower’s 149 residences, incorporating an Old Hollywood palette and ancient materials.
Designer Kimberly Sheppard says the team hopes to create something “that has its own narrative; a river that flows from room to room.”

On Morton Street in the West Village, a turn-of-the-century building–with light-filled, loft-like spaces–is transforming into 90 Morton, comprising 35 boutique residence condos by the end of the year.
“We opted to juxtapose the repetitive nature of a classical architecture with a worldview driven by a desire to maximize the attributes of every space and aspect,” says concept architect Asaf Gottesman of GS Arch.
The interiors, by Leroy Street Studio, will include exposed columns and beams contrasted with new stone, oak, ornamental metalwork and polished plaster.

Midtown will soon be home to a gracefully tapered condominium tower designed by Pritzker Prize-winning French architect Jean Nouvel.
Coming in 2019, the new residence, named 53W53, sits beside MoMA, which will have three gallery levels within the tower. “Architecture is art, and architecture is born from its situation, from its context,” Nouvel says.
Each residence will have a unique floor plan with interiors by architect and designer Thierry Despont, who incorporated hand-stained wood floors, fully bespoke kitchens and bathrooms of Italian-finished Verona limestone.
