Chicago Architecture Biennial

Started in 2015, the Chicago Architecture Biennial is the largest architecture and design exhibition in North America, serving as a platform for creatives from around the world to let their imaginations soar through exhibitions, full-scale installations and thought-provoking programming.

The 2019 edition–titled “…and other such stories”–will open September 19 and run through January 5. Of the 51 Biennial participants, five are from Chicago: Borderless Studio, Maria Gaspar, Forensic Architecture and Invisible Institute, Sweet Water Foundation and Theaster Gates.

Through their own unique works, each artist or firm will aim to spark dialogue on architecture and the built environment, with curatorial focuses on topics such as nature and landscape, memories related to social histories, and advocacy and civic purpose.
