hen a San Francisco couple chose a Chicago condo in a stately classical building as a family retreat, they were blown away by both the surrounding park and lake views.

To add a personal touch to the space, they turned to designer Jessica Lagrange, who worked with her team to create a comfortable yet stylish pied-a-terre with a layout that suited the clients, their two teenagers, plus visiting relatives.

“The design is a balance of high and low–that’s the way we live today,” says Lagrange. “It’s not cookie-cutter.”

Custom pieces and layered accessories highlight a mix of neutral furniture with pops of color, while carefully chosen artwork creates strong focal points in each room. “It’s hard to go wrong in a place where the views are so spectacular,” Lagrange says.

Once the renovation wrapped, the couple became so enamored with their new abode that they decided to stay in Chicago full-time and make their vacation home a forever home.
