In this Houston living room, a Lee Industries sofa from James Craig Furnishings pairs with a Global Views side table; a console--with a top by Joseph Company on a metal base by Peck & Company--holds lamps from Brown. Sconces from The Urban Electric Co. in Charleston, South Carolina, flank art commissioned by Matt Manalo, while Ann Sacks stone enhances the fireplace surround. The rattan lounge chair is McGuire, and the draperies are made of Kravet linen.

Gracie wallpaper swathes the dining room, which designer Marie Flanigan further softened with a rug from Madison Lily and draperies fabricated by G&S Custom Draperies using silk from Arabel Fabrics in North Miami, Florida. Perennials fabric from David Sutherland covers the front of custom chairs by Joseph Company. The chandelier, sconces and lamps are all from Circa Lighting, and the homeowners purchased the buffet from Thompson's Antique Center of Texas.

Accents in Iron fabricated the butler's pantry's glass shelves with plated chrome and supplied the antiqued mirror that backs them. Bellasera Design fabricated the honed Taj Mahal quartzite countertop; art lights from Circa Lighting illuminate the barware.

Just off the dining room, the butler's pantry features campaign-style cabinetry lined in polished nickel and painted Benjamin Moore's Westcott Navy in a high-gloss finish. The Water Street Brass hardware is from Hollywood Builders Hardware.

Bellasera Design fabricated the kitchen's backsplash and island using the same Taj Mahal quartzite that appears in the butler's pantry. A range hood finished in plaster by Anything But Plain hovers over a Wolf range. The barstools, from McGuire's Laura Kirar collection, wear Schumacher linen, while cabinets tout Du Verre hardware, and the two faucets are Rohl.

The Omar De Biaggio-designed dining chairs and a teak dining table, all from Design Within Reach, strike a more casual note in the breakfast room. A linear lantern from Circa Lighting, steel doors from The Window Center and art by Tony Magar--which the owners purchased through art consultant Maura Parro from Laura Rathe Fine Art--continue the room's contemporary theme.<

A Circa Lighting lantern and sconces illuminate the master bathroom, where Dimas Flores Construction Inc. fabricated the sink-area cabinetry and Accents in Iron made the mirrors. Bellasera Design constructed the flooring with marble from Materials Marketing and the countertops and tub surround with Piatra gray marble. The Jason International hydrotherapy tub, Atlas Homewares hardware, Marzi sink and Newport Brass faucet are all from Hollywood Builders Hardware.

A custom tea-stained painting by Gracie highlights the master suite sitting area, where Ralph Lauren Home sconces overlook a coffee table from Mecox and three sofa pillows: two from Vieux Interiors and one in Rubelli fabric.

Peck & Company constructed the custom wrought-iron chandelier that crowns the master bedroom. Draperies made of Duralee fabric flank the headboard from Indulge Maison Decor; above it, an architectural element from Joyce Horn Antiques hangs between RH sconces. Eva's New Design used Robert Allen fabric on the smaller pillow. Joseph Company made the nightstands, and at the foot of the bed is an Oly bench.

A painting by artist Padaric Kolander hangs above the fireplace in the library of a Houston home. As the wife notes, “He’s a man with a drink in his hand and he has a definite Texas attitude.” The desire to have a home reflecting the couple’s shared Texas roots mingled with an East Coast edge acquired during time living in New York City led them to Kolander’s studio and to other art selections, with the help of art consultant Maura Parro of Laura Rathe Fine Art.

Elsewhere, a depiction of a donkey–which the homeowners commissioned by artist Matt Manalo–situated on the stained-oak paneling in the entry, for example, is a subtle homage to the Lone Star’s cowboy culture, while abstract pieces like the bold blue Tony Magar in the informal dining area is a not-so-subtle New York shout out.

When it came to furnishings, designer Marie Flanigan continued the edgy Big Apple-meets-Southern vibe by melding skirted sofas and plush fabrics with heavy metal doors in the living room, and utilizing industrial stainless-steel cabinet pulls in the kitchen. Throughout the house, strong geometric patterns, evident in the limestone flooring and wall panels, dance with antiques and modern seating. As Flanigan explains, “The beauty of the union of traditional elements with minimalist design is evident in every detail.”
