17TH LAKE FOREST SHOWHOUSE & GARDENS IN CHICAGO

Just as spring brings a burst of azaleas and cherry blossoms, so does the annual Lake Forest Showhouse & Gardens. Held every other year, the event calls on top area interior and landscape designers to decorate a captivating residence open to public tours as a fund-raiser for the Infant Welfare Society of Chicago. This year’s exhibition, accessible seven days a week through May 21, takes shape in an east Lake Forest estate built by famed Chicago architect Howard Van Doren Shaw. The English country-style mansion, situated on more than 2 acres at 440 E. Wisconsin Ave., was constructed in 1922 and boasts five bedrooms, five-and-a-half bathrooms and a five-room coach house along with gardens, fountains and a fire pit. As they stroll through the mansion, visitors will view the work of local designers such as Michael Del Piero in the living room, Shelley Johnstone in the dining room and Susan Brunstrum in the master bedroom, plus beautiful greens bay landscape architect Craig Bergmann, among others.
