Round Platter - Blue Lace

No need to travel internationally to take a piece of Cote d’Azur home with you. All you have to do is head to the seventh floor of Bergdorf’s.

French faience brand Gien debuted an exclusive collection of handcrafted pieces at the home department of Bergdorf Goodman earlier this month.

Gien’s signature blue-and-white china grace the most beautiful tabletops around the world, but never before have pieces been featured in New York City’s shopping mecca.

The shining star of the Cote d’Azur exhibition is The Bazelaire Ceramic Collection, designed by Parisian ceramicist Brigitte de Bazelaire.

Bazelaire was invited to take residency at Gien’s Loire Valley factory in May 2016 to create the brand’s Indigo collection, which launched last fall. Her work for the company was so well-received, that Bazelaire’s residency was extended to help launch Gien’s first series of all handcrafted and one-of-a-kind tabletop accessories.

The ceramicist was inspired by one of Gien’s oldest archived patterns, Rouen 32, which dates back to the early 17th century. She grew up with the design at her family’s dining room table.

Rouen 32 represents the roots of the brand, steeped in tradition of a classic blue-and-white color palette and ornate floral motifs (which remind us of this Colorado ceramicist’s garden-inspired work).

Bergdorf Goodman selected 12 items from The Bazelaire Ceramic Collection for its Cote d’Azur-themed exhibition, which is on view until Aug. 15. The core Indigo collection is also available for purchase at the store.
