Contemporary art fans, rejoice. ICA Miami will soon be bigger and better than ever.
Since its founding in 2014, the Institute of Contemporary Art, Miami has contributed to the area’s blossoming art scene from its location at the historic Moore Building. Come Dec. 1, however, the museum will have its permanent place in the Miami Design District at 61 NE 41st St.
“ICA Miami’s new home will enhance their curatorial purview and provide a hub for artists, scholars, and the Miami community,” a representative says of the new location, which will open up just ahead of Art Basel Miami Beach.
Thanks to a gift from Norman Braman and ICA Miami Board co-chair Irma Braman, the new building has a distinct architectural look, designed by Spanish firm Aranguren & Gallegos Arquitectos.
The museum will also boast a sculpture garden, designed by Project-Space’s Jonathan Caplan in association with landscape architect Fernando Wong and Wolfberg Alvarez & Partners. The land for the sculpture garden, in addition to the design and construction of the building, was funded by Irma and Norman Braman coupled with a donation from Miami Design District Associates.
An exhibition entitled “The Everywhere Studio” — featuring artists, like Andy Warhol and Pablo Picasso, from the past 50 years — will be the main feature when the museum opens.
With free admission and 37,500 square feet of space, the institution will have plenty to offer locals and visitors alike.
The Institute of Contemporary Art, Miami will be located at 61 NE 41st St. in Miami.
