Now that summer 2019 is officially in the books, we welcome the promise of a new, design-filled season that includes the highly anticipated Austin Proper Hotel & Residences, currently taking reservations.

Slated to open this fall, the 32-story modern high-rise will comprise 244 hotel rooms and suites, three restaurants, two bars, an outdoor lounge, two elevated swimming pools, a full-service spa and wellness facility and nearly 10,000 square feet of meeting space–all designed by iconic interior designer Kelly Wearstler.

Atop the hotel, Wearstler also brought to life the 99 luxury for-sale residences ranging from one-, two- and three-bedroom abodes to four- and five-bedroom penthouses with panoramic views.

Wearstler drew her design inspiration for Austin Proper from the Austin locale through and through, with interiors reminiscent of the area’s historic craftsman-style homes with art nouveau and arts & crafts motifs, joinery techniques, textures and materials. “We’re layering this timeless, historic, stylish sensibility with warmth and intimacy in a new, modern building,” Wearstler said.

The hotel lobby features a wooden staircase with 60 conjoined vintage carpets topped with monolith assorted pots by local ceramicist Rick Van Dyke, as well as a light fixture with neon accents reminiscent of Austin’s iconic neon signs. Guest rooms feature Van Dyke trays and hand-raked cabinet inlay tiles. Columns, walls and furnishings throughout the property utilize Elmwood, a material indigenous to Austin. And along the corridors of the condo owner’s floors, custom photos by Barry Stone showcase Austin scenery and landscape.

Austin Proper Hotel & Residences is located at 600 West 2nd Street at the edge of Lady Bird Lake.
