Underneath the television in the family room, Macumber's Home Maintenance Services replaced a concrete mantel with a walnut shelf. Next to it, Gick designed the doors of the built-in cabinet, which was fabricated by Quality Custom Home Interiors. The armchair is RH, the coffee table is Brownstone, and the sectional is Vanguard. A Surya rug grounds the space, while Robert Allen fabric makes up the draperies.

To create a dramatic gallery of art in the living room, O'Dowd selected a range of works from the Wendover Art Group in Largo, Florida. A dominant palette of beige, gray and brown prevails in the space, which is furnished with a sofa and armchairs by Vanguard, tables by Brownstone Furniture and a pair of marble lamps from Robert Abbey. The striped rug is by Jaipur.

The designers gave the foyer a sophisticated feel with a three-tier wood-and-brass Jonathan Adler chandelier from Robert Abbey in High Point, North Carolina. A hive-like framed mirror by Noir hangs over a Vanguard console. The saturated blue rug is by Surya.

"We love painted cement tiles," O'Dowd says, referring to the kitchen's defining backsplash from the Cement Tile Shop in Tampa, Florida. The cabinets are by Redline Custom Cabinet Company, topped with quartz countertops from MJ Stone. The refrigerated drawers are Jenn-Air, the faucets are Delta, and the apron sink is Kohler.

modern kitchen white brown barstools...

Leather upholstery on kitchen barstools from Dovetail Furniture in Los Angeles resembles a bomber jacket, O'Dowd observes: "It looks like they come from a vintage shop." Redline Custom Cabinet Company fabricated the new bar counter on the kitchen island and replaced the cabinetry. The trio of pendant lights is by Feiss.

modern hallway dark ceiling beams...

For the revamp of a Mediterranean house in Scottsdale, "we wanted the entire home to feel light, bright and masculine," says designer Jennifer O'Dowd, who chose Dunn-Edwards' Foggy Day paint for the living room. She and co-designer Joanna Gick enlisted a team to help them realize their vision, including Check's Restoration, which did much of the renovation work, such as darkening the ceiling beams throughout.

The ocean-like painted grass-cloth wallcovering is by Phillip Jeffries, the mirror is by Surya, and the sconces are by Circa Lighting. Redline Custom Cabinet Company fabricated the vanities on both sides of the Sunstruck soaker tub by Kohler.

The owner of a Scottsdale house wanted all that the picturesque region had to offer–except the rustic Mediterranean style that’s so prevalent there. That’s where designers Jennifer O’Dowd and Joanna Gick came in. Their portfolio is alive with primary colors, geometric patterns–and a lot more Chinese Chippendale than Tuscan terra cotta.

“Our designs are really not ‘Southwest’ at all,” O’Dowd explains. “We like to focus more on light and an overall fresh feeling.”

That doesn’t mean the duo fought against the home’s beamed ceilings or limestone floors. Instead, they used them to their advantage, darkening the beams to pop against bright-white walls, and polishing the floors to shine against color-soaked rugs.

O’Dowd was aiming for a preppy Ralph Lauren look, with accents of navy blue and emerald green. She also brought in tweedy chevron wallpaper for the powder room and a rivet-studded grass cloth for the master bedroom to heighten the chic vibe.

But everyone’s favorite spot is the guest room and office, where the designers were asked to create custom bunk beds–for adults. “Guests all want to stay in that room. It’s the most popular room in the house!” O’Dowd says.
