SANDOW To Take Over Operations Of NYCxDESIGN

Details

SANDOW, the parent company of Luxe Interiors + Design, will take over operations of NYCxDESIGN in 2020.

The New York City Economic Development Corporation (NYCEDC) shared news of the partnership — along with information about 2019 programming — during a press conference Thursday at the Parsons School of Design.

The annual celebration of design attracts hundreds of thousands of attendees who flock to events throughout the city’s five boroughs to enjoy exhibitions, installations, trade shows, panels and more featuring top talent from around the globe.

“We are very proud of the remarkable success NYCxDESIGN has had in just seven short years. The festival has grown into one of the biggest and most far-reaching design weeks in the world, last year adding over $50 million to the gross city product and attracting over 330,000 attendees to nearly 400 events citywide,” NYCEDC President and CEO James Patchett says. “NYCEDC is thrilled to be partnering with SANDOW to further elevate NYCxDESIGN, and we look forward to seeing their vision brought to life in 2020 and beyond.”

SANDOW’s role comes after NYCEDC reviewed a number of proposals for the operation of the annual celebration of design.

“We are incredibly excited to work with businesses, organizations, and institutions across the city to build on the strong foundation that the NYEDC has already created for NYCxDESIGN,” says SANDOW CEO and founder Adam Sandow. “Our goal is nothing short of creating the most engaging, expansive, and inclusive design platform in the world. We look forward to working collaboratively with partners across the city to accomplish great success and continue to make New York the center of design.”

Taking place May 10 through May 22, this year’s NYCxDESIGN includes new programming, such as a The Diner by David Rockwell and Surface with 2×4 (a pop-up restaurant celebrating American design); NYC Department of Transportation Art (a self-guided public art tour of temporary works on display across the city); and Ventura New York (a showcase of Dutch contemporary design).

Key events, such as ICFF, WantedDesign, Design Districts and the NYCxDESIGN Awards, are slated to return with noteworthy highlights including international showcases, AIA Architecture walks and a Baccarat la Maison debut.

In addition to Luxe Interiors + Design, publications under the SANDOW umbrella include Interior Design, Galerie and New Beauty, along with brands such as Los Angeles retailer Fred Segal and sampling platform Material Bank.
