Salone Announces Its Return To Shanghai This Fall

Salone is headed back to Shanghai.

The three-day design and furnishings show formally known as Salone del Mobile.Milano recently announced its fourth edition in the Chinese city will take place November 20-22, 2019. About 125 luxury brands — including Artemide, Cesar, Molteni & C, Opera Contemporary and Turri — are slated to occupy nearly 85,000 square feet in the Shanghai Exhibition Center.

With China as the best represented foreign country at Salone’s Italian exhibition in Milan — and more than 22,500 visitors at last year’s Shanghai event — a link between the two countries is clear.

“Italy is, without a doubt, the No. 1 importer of furnishing to the Chinese market,” said Amedo Scarpa, director of Beijing’s ICE office, a government agency that supports the business development of Italian companies abroad. “Sipping a glass of Italian wine, sitting on a unique Italian design sofa, while wearing exclusive Italian fashion accessories and so on, is increasingly what China’s Millennials aspire to.”

In addition to exhibitions from top brands, the 2019 edition will feature master classes by Italian architects and designers, as well as a program for up-and-coming designers under 35 to display their projects.
