SAN FRANCISCO ART INSTITUTE

Fort Mason is now home to the San Francisco Art Institute‘s newest campus. The 67,000-square-foot renovated pier–originally an embarkation point for World War II’s Pacific theater–boasts more than 160 art studios, plus a woodshop and fabrication facility, installation and seminar rooms, digital media suite, and 3,300 square feet of exhibition space that’s open to the public free of charge. Designed by Leddy Maytum Stacy Architects, the bright, modern space has sweeping views of the San Francisco Bay and emphasizes sustainable features. “The new San Francisco Art Institute campus preserves the industrial integrity of this important landmark structure while creating a dynamic new hub of arts activities for Fort Mason,” says Marsha Maytum, principal at Leddy Maytum Stacy Architects.
