n the heart of West Palm Beach, Sara McCann has created quite a name for herself thanks to her natural flair for curating interiors that radiate an airy sophistication and quiet beauty. “Often, my creativity is client-driven. Seeing unique opportunities inspires me,” reflects McCann, which is evident in her businesses, McCann Design Group and retail destination, Hive Home, Gift and Garden. In the past year alone, her interior design firm outgrew its former space, moving to offices just off Dixie Highway; plus, she launched an online destination of Hive and has begun feverishly working on the launch of Hive Bakery and Cafe set to open next year. Between scheming interior palettes, buying new inventory for the retail emporium and dreaming up tasty treats, McCann takes time to share her favorite places to frequent this winter.
9 a.m. I like to start my mornings on the bike trail that leads from Garden Road to the Flagler Memorial Bridge and back. Palm Beach draws people from so many different parts of the country and the world, lending to a true resort community. People who move here are excited about creating a Florida home, and it’s fun to tour these Intracoastal residences without being on a boat.
10 a.m. After working up an appetite, a quick stop at Celis Produce on South Dixie Highway is due. My go-to is the refreshing kale-a-bunga juice with hints of kale, apple, ginger and lemon woven throughout.
10:30 a.m. Continue north on Dixie Highway and pop into Hive Home, Gift and Garden. The store provides the perfect outlet to curate and showcase our fabulous finds. At Hive, whether it is one of our go-to gifts or the new arrivals of furniture and pillows, there is always something to see. Soon, visitors will be able to stop by Hive Bakery and Cafe on the corner of Dixie and Palm Beach for a coffee or snack.
1 p.m. Hop back in the car and cross the Southern Boulevard Bridge to Palm Beach, driving north along the ocean. Take a leisurely stroll down Worth Avenue for some window shopping.
2 p.m. Be sure to stop inside Holden Luntz Gallery and peruse the amazing vintage and contemporary American and European photography. The gallery recently wrapped up an exhibit featuring Joyce Tenneson‘s photographic portraits.
3 p.m. An afternoon well spent is one where I can check out the latest and greatest vintage finds at Circa Who, Palm Beach Regency and Palm Beach Antique & Design Center. Scattered from Dixie Highway to Northwood Road, whenever I want to find a unique rattan piece or old Florida element to incorporate into a project, I can always count on these stores.
6 p.m. Finish the day with a relaxing dinner at the classic Palm Beach Grill on Royal Poinciana Way. It has a fabulous grapefruit martini that pairs well with the seared ahi tuna with mango and avocado topped off with a honey-lime vinaigrette.
