Spartan Shop

When did the Portland store open its doors?

We opened last summer on Southeast Grand Avenue.

You originally launched in Austin 10 years ago, so why Portland for the shop’s sophomore location?

My husband and I fell in love with Portland on an impromptu road trip and moved here 5 years ago. We were searching for a space that was minimal and composed of clean lines, but also wanted the character of an older building so the space wouldn’t feel too cold or stark. We found a corner storefront whose adjoining walls of floor-to-ceiling windows and loads of white paint make the shop feel luminous even on the dreariest of winter days.

What brands do you carry?

We offer artisan goods from all over the world and some outstanding items from local makers, such as ceramicists Lilith Rockett and Kati Von Lehman, painter Amy Bernstein, and glassblowers Justin Parker and Andi Kovel of Esque Studio. For furniture and lighting, we carry De Jong & Co, Lambert & Fils, Workstead, ParkerWorks, & Tradition and Armadillo & Co.

Do you offer any special services?

Many of the brands we carry are flexible about customization in size and material; we frequently tailor pieces to suit specific desires. Recently, we have been taking on a lot of consulting work for restaurants and hotels and working closely with interior designers. We have also been known to pour a glass of wine or two for our guests and collaborators!
