Check In: Viceroy Chicago

Move over, Waldorf Astoria and The Ritz-Carlton: There’s a new luxury neighbor in the Gold Coast area of Chicago’s North Side. This fall, Viceroy Chicago will welcome guests into what was the Cedar Hotel, a 1920s landmark of the city’s past life. The original hotel’s four-story facade will remain intact, fronting a new 18-story tower made of brick with baroque elements juxtaposed with glass and steel. Inside, Las Vegas-based TAL Studio will outfit 180 guest rooms, including 42 suites. Every last room will offer views of the surrounding skyline, and some suites will look out onto Lake Michigan. But for the best view in the house, head to the rooftop pool and lounge, set on the 18th story with unobstructed sight lines of the Windy City’s architectural glory.
